21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Day 14

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works. The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.” Psalm 145:13-14

The Kingdom of God is everlasting, dominant, and continues through all earthly generations.  It is beyond comprehension to image a day when all that I know is gone and only the Kingdom of God remains.  I know that is what will happen, but I have no earthly frame of reference for that day.

I also know I am guilty of building my kingdom.  I like to be the king on the throne of my life.  I cannot imagine that my plans would fail or that my abilities would be lacking.  But the Lord upholds those who are falling and raises up those who are bowed down.

A fast exposes some of my weaknesses.  It reminds me that all that I may be focused on in my physical life is secondary to spiritual kingdom of God.  In my pride, I refuse to bow.  I claim that I can do it on my own.  I trust in my strength and not God’s.

But like all the kingdoms of this world, the kingdom I build in my power will one day fall.  I can choose to humble myself now and come to the King of all kings, or I can continue in my pride and watch my kingdom fall under His judgment.

Prayer: Father God, I praise You for Your character.  You are trustworthy, faithful, powerful, compassionate, merciful, and glorious. I thank You that You are merciful to me.  You uphold the weak and raise up the humble.  I know Your Kingdom is the final kingdom and all others will fall before You.  God, I chose to abandon my Kingdom in light of who You are.  I pledge myself to You and to Your Kingdom.  I am Your servant, use me to build Your Kingdom.
