21 Days of Prayer and Fasting
3
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
During a fast, the desire for the foods I am fasting from often arises. In those moments, I must deny those physical cravings and reminded myself of why I am fasting in the first place. This fast is designed to help me draw closer to God. I am seeking Him.
As I deny the physical to seek God spiritually, I am also reminded that far too often I seek things I want. I allow my desires to become the primary focus of my life, and allow God, His purposes, and His kingdom to become a secondary element. A fast begins to bring that imbalance to light.
To seek first God and His kingdom must be the priority of my life. Whether I receive other things or not matters little in comparison to the primary purpose of seeking God first. God knows my needs and will meet my needs. I am to seek Him, His Kingdom and His righteousness above all other desires in my life.
Prayer: Father God, You Word tells me that I am to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. I confess that too often I have sought after My Kingdom and My comfort. In a fresh way, I recommit myself to You today. Help me to focus on Your throughout this day. I want to know You more and understand Your righteousness. I trust you know my needs and will meet my needs. Because I trust You, my needs can become secondary to seeking You.
